Square is relevant when a mobile operator wants an integrated small-business ecosystem. Toast deserves evaluation when the truck needs restaurant-centered order workflow. PayPal Zettle belongs on a simple PayPal-connected mobile shortlist. Fit still depends on the proposed hardware and account configuration.

Decision criteria for a portable checkout kit

Inspect device compatibility, battery planning, charging, mounts, reader connection, cellular and Wi-Fi behavior, menu editing, modifiers, tips, digital and printed receipts, staff sign-in, refund permissions, cash recording, item availability, exports, and hardware replacement. Define what is packed, charged, paired, and tested before departure.

Payment acceptance does not establish PCI DSS compliance. Use PCI Security Standards Council merchant guidance to map responsibilities for approved devices, the truck's network, staff procedures, providers, and the applicable validation process.

Reproducible mini-check before an event

Set up the exact travel kit with a synthetic menu. Suppose deferred activity reconnects only after staff have packed up and changed locations. The system should expose unresolved records, stable identifiers, and a controlled path to review rather than silently merging an event into the next day's work.
